Metronidazole - Antibacterial STI TreatmentFollowing a recent review by our clinical team, our doctors do not consider it appropriate to supply this treatment via an online consultation only. If you are seeking this or similar medication, we advise you to make an appointment with your regular doctor who can properly assess your suitability for treatment.
The active ingredient metronidazole is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by anaerob bacteria (bacteria who do not need oxygen to grow and survive) or protozotes. This makes the drug particularly suitable for the treatment of infections of the internal organs, for example, the gut. It is also often administered after gynecological surgery. Please note: broad spectrum antibiotics can compromise the effectiveness of certain hormonal contraceptives. To prevent pregancy during treatment, please use alternative means of contraception, preferrably a barrier method such as condoms or abstinance, during treatment and for seven days after treatment is finished. If you take metronidazole to cure an STI, you should not have unprotected sex until you get the all clear confirmed. It is also important that your sexual partner gets treated at the same time as a precautionary measure to avoid the infection being passed back and forth between you. Metronidazole Dosage Regimes7 Day Course: The usual dose is 400 mg twice a day for seven days.One-off Dose: A total of 2 milligrams is administered in one go.Unsuitable patientsBefore taking metronidazole make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows:
