Dianette

Dianette is used to treat skin conditions – such as moderate to severe acne that has not improved after the long term use of oral antibiotics and excessive hair growth or hirsutism. Dianette should be prescribed to women only.

Dianette also works as an oral contraceptive, but it is not recommended that you use Dianette solely for contraceptive purposes.

How it works

Dianette is an anti-androgen. Androgens are hormones which stimulate hair growth and the sebaceous glands in your skin. Excess oils or sensitivity to sebum can block glands, leading them to become inflamed and infected. This inflammation is known as acne. Dianette works by reducing the amount of androgens produces by the body and reducing the skin’s sensitivity to the hormone.

Taking Dianette

The way you take Dianette is the same whether you are taking the pill to treat acne or hirstisum.

Dianette is a 21-day Pill – take one tablet each day at the same time every day. When your blister pack runs out, you have 7 days when you take no pills.

Further information

Within a few days of taking the last pill from the strip, you should have a withdrawal bleed like a period. This bleed may not have finished when it is time to start your next strip of pills.

Dianette will not protect you against sexually transmitted infections, such as Chlamydia or HIV. Only condoms can offer reliable protection against STIs.

I was on this pill for more than a year and I completely lost my desire to have sex. Couldn't figure out why at first but as soon as I found out that it was because of this pill, I stopped taking it. Switched to Yasmin much happier now even though I wish I didn't have to take pills at all!

Still suffering from acne aged 35. have tried everything from Skinoren through to the more serious stuff (Retin-A), all with moderate success. Doctor has now put me on Dianette plus a topical cream, 2 months on I am really starting to see a difference!

I have really oily skin and consequently adult acne, not a good look! It has helped with the look and control of the oil production and consequently I have far less spots. Try it.
